Dennis J. McCoy

Dennis J McCoy, age 61, of Amboy, passed away on Saturday October 21, 2023.

He was born on December 28, 1961 in Dixon, the son of William and Marie (Sharkey) McCoy. On January 27th, 1978, he married the love of his life Cynthia Schamberger. Dennis worked as a Local 399 Stationary Engineer for the Dixon Correctional Center and retired as Chief Engineer. He also loved post retirement work at Jack Mabley and Dwight Development Centers.

Dennis was passionate about giving back and the impact he had on the community will be felt for years to come. He was a hardworking fixer, if he saw something that needed done he did it. Dennis showed love through feeding people and loved catering. Family favorites included prime rib and biscuits and gravy.

He loved hunting and the Irish Acres. He took pride in his family, and was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He was an active member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

He also served on the Lee County Board, was the Amboy Township Supervisor, part of the City of Amboy Sod Squad, supporter of Lee County Democrats, and many other organizations.

Dennis is survived by his children Tony (Katie Wetzell) McCoy of Morrison, Emily (Michael) O’Malley of Amboy, Mitch (Katrina) McCoy of Princeton, 11 grandchildren Dalton McCoy, Mason McCoy, Abby O’Malley, Madison O’Malley, Collin O’Malley, Myla McCoy, Makaylee McCoy, Mairyn McCoy, Maxton McCoy, Grace Wetzell, and Lily Wetzell. Five brothers Donald (Karen) McCoy of Dixon, Leo (Jane) McCoy of Amboy, Dean (Paula) McCoy of Dixon, Hugh (Susan) McCoy of Amboy, Douglas (Brenda) McCoy of Amboy, Four sisters Eileen (Ronald) Leffelman of Amboy, Regina McCoy of Van Orin, Monica (Tom) Bulfer of Amboy, Theresa (Floyd) Wilson of Sublette, and sister in law Sharon McCoy of Tennessee.

Funeral services will be on Friday October 27th 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy. Burial will follow at St Patrick Cemetery in Maytown.

A luncheon will follow the burial at the Amboy Community Building. Visitation will be on Thursday October 26th, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Amboy Community Building and also on Friday October 27th, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at St Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.
