Live Action Role Playing Group Gets Approval From Dixon Park District for Two Day Event

Have you ever wanted to be a part of the Game of Thrones or Dungeons and Dragons?  Some people have gone to the length of acting out their fantasy.

The ones who do this are doing what is called Live Action Role Playing or LARP.  You may have seen the local group who have performed battles at Lowell Park.  They use plastic swords, axes and shields.

The participants came before the Park Board recently to request a two-day event at Lowell Park and this would include camping.  Executive Director Duane Long said the groups has come to Lowell Park before and have not had a problem.  The groups would also avoid park trails so as not to interfere with visitors.

The groups asked to camp at Barton Shelter which is set further back from the rest of the park.  There would also be plenty of signs to let the public know what is going on.  There is a hope that the two-day event would increase the size of the local group.
