The Dixon Police Department would like to welcome Indy to the Dixon Police Department!

Indy is a 3-year-old Blue Heeler mix that was a rescue in Brevard County, Florida. Indy was donated to the Dixon Police Department by the Paws & Stripes College.

Paws & Stripes program started in 2006 as a basic dog obedience program to help save the lives of dogs in Brevard County, FL Animal Shelter. Carefully selected and trained Jail inmates were paired with shelter dogs who then train the dogs.

The Paws & Stripes program has advanced into the “Paws and Stripes College” and offers the basic tenants of the original program while serving as the foundation for the College.

The program also selects canine graduates of the program to move into advanced training and serve as Law Enforcement & Multidiscipline Crimes against Persons Therapy Dogs. These dogs are then donated to Law Enforcement Agencies.

Handlers complete a 40-hour training course to learn how to deploy and bond with the dogs before completing the certification as a team.

Indy is partnered with Officer McWethy and will be at the school for the remainder of the school year. Indy will be on patrol throughout the summer and at community events.
