The Sterling City Council made unusually quick work of the semi-monthly meeting held last Monday night.

A couple of consent agenda items passed including the Sterling Kiwanis will hold a Bucket Brigade on May 4. Hope Cancer Wellness Center will also hold a Bucket Brigade on May 18.

Mayor Diana Merdian read a proclamation for National Therapy Animal Day recognizing Police Dog Brinkley. On duty since 2017, Brinkley has visited many locations and brought smiles wherever she goes.

Merdian also read a proclamation for Arbor Day which is April 26.

In other news, the council approved the obligation of $370,000 dollars in ARPA funds to address the negative economic impacts caused by public health emergency. City Manager Scott Shumard stated that one request came in for funding for new seats at the theatre.

Shumard also went over the 2024-25 fiscal budget and the amending of the pay plan which was ratified by the council. Additionally, two ordinances relating to unpaid refuse collection and sewer service were approved. The filing of liens is the next step.
