The next time you think you cannot find something in Dixon and you need to travel out of town to get it or save some money, the City Council Monday evening suggest you think again.

During the City Council meeting, Mayor Glen Hughes read a proclamation naming April 28-May 4 as National Small Business Week.  The mayor also said shopping local should be a year round thing.

He said you probably would spend more money by going out of town than if you looked for it locally.  Council member and small business owner Mike Venier concurred; he gave a great deal of credit to the Chamber.

Councilman Dennis Considine said the big stores in Rockford or the Chicago suburbs are not the ones who sponsor local youth sports or Dixon events.

It was pointed out that the local small businesses arenot just in the downtown.  There are over 400 small businesses in Dixon.
