Lee County Clerk Hopes June Primary is a One and Done

By Tim Lee Jun 28, 2022 | 10:20 PM

Tuesday was Primary Election day in the state.  The time to cast your ballot began at 6:00 am and the polls closed at 7:00 pm.

There were some changes in Lee County for this election.  The major change was the fact the primary in Illinois was in June.  Due to redistricting in the state it was decided in Springfield to move everything to later in the year.  Lee County Clerk Nancy Peterson is hopeful this will be a one and done and the state will go back to the March primary.

The census had an impact as in Lee County there were three less places to cast your vote.  The county went from 20 polling places to 17.  Peterson said early voting started on May 19 and about 1,000 persons took advantage of this.

In Lee County they purchased new voting machines and these should have been in use for this election.
