St. Patrick’s Day will arrive before we know it, bringing parades, parties, green beer, and more to communities across the state.
To warn motorists of the hazards of impaired driving and to help keep our roadways safe, the Dixon Police Department is collaborating with the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation on a comprehensive traffic safety campaign.
In addition to hunting for drivers who are impaired by alcohol or cannabis, the Dixon Police Department will increase seat belt enforcement, particularly at night when seat belt usage is lowest. All traffic regulations will be vigorously enforced, including speeding and distracted driving.
Whether you’re attending a party, hosting friends, or heading out to a bar, remember to prioritize safety throughout the day and night. When it’s time to leave, ensure that your designated driver is sober. Remember that walking while impaired might be dangerous, so ask a sober companion to accompany you home.
The St. Patrick’s Day enforcement program is supported by federal traffic safety funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is managed by IDOT.
