The Old Lee County Courthouse Friday afternoon had pinwheels lining the sidewalks.  With the wind blowing briskly, the pinwheels were in constant motion.  The pinwheel is the symbol of support for victims of child abuse.

Friday at the Old Courthouse was the Hands Around the Courthouse event.  A couple hundred people came out to show their support of child abuse prevention.

One of the speakers was Judge Matt Klahn.  Klahn spoke of Generation Z, those who grew up in the late 1990’s to the early 2010”s.    He called them more anxious and the first generation that grew up with social media and playtime being on a phone.

He said parents might be too protective when it comes to sending the kids out into the world and under protective when it comes to online.  This is where many predators lurk and groom their victims.

Sheriff Clay Whelan said that just because we live in a local area we are not immune to the tragedies that child abuse can cause.
