James Cameron's wife saw 'Avatar: Fire and Ash': 'She cried for four hours'

James Cameron’s wife saw Avatar: Fire and Ash and had a strong reaction to it.

In an interview with Empire, the filmmaker said that his wife of 25 years, Suzy Amis Cameron, cried for a long time after seeing a version of the film in late 2024.

“My wife watched the whole thing from end to end — she had kept herself away from it and I wasn’t showing her bits and pieces as we went along,” Cameron recalled. “She bawled for four hours.”

Cameron’s wife cried so much that he couldn’t obtain any feedback on the video from her.

“She kept trying to get her s*** back together so she could tell me specific reactions, and then she’d just tear up and start crying again,” Cameron told me. “Finally, I’m like, ‘Honey, I need to go to bed. Sorry, we’ll talk about it another time.”

Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third film in the Avatar franchise. The first film hit theaters in 2009. It is the highest-grossing movie of all time. Avatar: The Way of Water, the 2023 sequel, is the third highest-grossing film of all time.

When asked if his wife’s reaction was a decent indication of what to expect from the picture, Cameron replied, “She’s a pretty good bellwether.”

“She called the ball on Titanic, Avatar, and Avatar 2.” So I believe her heart in it,” he remarked.

Avatar: Fire and Ash reaches theaters on December 19.
