A variety of factors influence the timing of Social Security payments. As a retiree in the United States, whether or not you receive your payment is determined by the group to which you belong.
In this sense, receiving your payment within the first few days of the month is determined by the year you retired, but there are additional requirements to consider after that.
The Social Security Administration offers four different payment days for retirees. If we are in group 1 of retirees, we can expect to receive our checks on the third of each month, barring any surprises.
However, we are not discussing the first payment of the month, but rather the second, which was sent in the same week of March.
Thus, one’s birthday is the other requirement to be taken into account in order to determine which group of retirees we belong to.
If we are part of this group 2, we may even receive the payment today. It will also depend on the collection method we have chosen to receive the monthly benefit payment.
Who receives Social Security this week?
Retirees who meet two specific requirements will be able to receive their Social Security benefits in the same week in March 2025.
If they do not meet both requirements, they will be unable to receive this payment; however, they will receive it at a later date in the month.

Thus, payments for this benefit will arrive today or within the next few days of this week to retirees who:
- Have your birthday between the 1st and 10th day of any month.
- Have had your Social Security benefit accepted since after May 1997.
Only if we are in this group will we be able to get paid on this particular day. However, we must add one more requirement to receive the check on March 12th.
It is required in this case to receive payment via Direct Deposit. This method of collection is immediate, so if it is not activated, we will have to wait a few days before receiving the check in our checking account.
How much will we receive from Social Security?
The COLA for 2025 has had an impact on Social Security benefit payments, but the payment will ultimately be the same in March as in the previous months of the year. So your benefit payment for January and February will be the same as in this case.
This could change if we are affected by the Fairness Act. In that case, everything will be determined by the amount of the increase and whether we receive it. As a result, until we receive the March Social Security check in our bank account, we will be unable to determine the exact amount.
