Selander's victory over Akron ties the program's single-game goal record

The Lindenwood women’s lacrosse team (5-1) defeated Akron (4-3) 18-12 in their home opener on Saturday afternoon.Luci Selander tied the program record for most goals in a single game with nine.

GAME OVERVIEW

Lindenwood scored 4-0 in less than four minutes, with goals from Alissa DiGiacinto, Reese Krieger, and Luci Selander. Akron scored the next two goals to reduce the lead to 4-2. Selander smoothed things down, completing her first-quarter hat trick to put the Lions up 5-2. Lindenwood led 7-2 after DiGiacinto and Emma Walsh scored, with Isabella Rulapaugh assisting.

The two sides traded goals to start the second quarter. Selander scored her fourth goal of the day to put Lindenwood ahead 9-3. Selander scored twice more in the quarter, giving the Lions a 12-5 lead at the interval.

Akron scored the first two goals of the second half, but Breylin Bright stopped the run, stretching the margin to 13-7. Following a Zips goal, Selander scored twice more before the end of the quarter to give Lindenwood a 15-8 lead after three.

The Zips scored first in the fourth, but DiGiacinto and Selander put Lindenwood ahead 17-9.Olivia Tighe’s goal made the score 18-9 in the home opener. Lindenwood won by a final score of 18-12.
