A bomb cyclone could bring severe storms to Missouri later next week

We’re entering the normal March severe weather pattern in Missouri, where storm systems initiate a trend of instability that can result in large thunderstorms. A bomb cyclone appears to be forming, perhaps bringing catastrophic storms to Missouri late next week.

My wife, a meteorologist, suggested the idea last night, and now I’m seeing several internet weather experts discussing what could happen between Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15, 2025.

Here’s the low pressure system that models predict will pass over northwestern Missouri by the end of next week.

Some believe this has bomb cyclone potential because the pressure is 964 millibars. They reveal that the dew point over Missouri could be sufficient to drive storm formation in the 55-plus range.

When you look at the instability in the atmosphere over Missouri that models predict will occur next weekend, you have the potential for severe thunderstorms.

Storm chaser Reed Timmer sees the same thing.

It’s far too early to determine for certain whether severe storms will form over Missouri or anywhere else, but the risk exists.

It would be a good idea to pay close attention to National Weather Forecast advisories as Saturday, March 15 approaches, and be prepared for what may occur.
