Hundreds of kids affected by January’s wildfires in the Los Angeles region will be able to attend prom this spring due to actor Steve Carell.
Carell announced in a video message to students at six Los Angeles high schools on Tuesday that he was partnering with the group Alice’s Kids to distribute the substantial gift.
“Attention! Attention, all seniors! “This is Steve Carell, and I have a very special announcement,” he began.
“I work with a wonderful charity based out of Virginia called Alice’s Kids, and Alice’s Kids wanted me to let you know that they will be paying for all of your prom tickets.”
“Have fun!” Enjoy the prom! “And remember, this is Steve Carell,” he said.
Alice’s Kids stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday that the nonprofit will provide tickets to approximately 800 kids from six high schools in Altadena, California, who were affected by the Eaton Fire, which burned over 14,000 acres throughout Los Angeles County from Jan. 7 to Jan. 31, according to Cal Fire.
“Today, the six high schools in Altadena, California, are hosting special assemblies for their seniors. “Once seated, the kids will see this wonderful announcement from our friend, Steve Carell,” Alice’s Kids stated in their post.
“Yes, we are paying for every prom ticket (about 800) for every senior in that area that was impacted by the Eaton fire!”
Karla Sofía Gascón, the controversial Oscar-nominated Emilia Pérez star, thanked Madonna on social media.
Gascón, the first openly transgender actress to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, sparked controversy in January when previous tweets containing racist remarks against targeted communities surfaced. Despite being pulled from Emilia Pérez’s Oscar campaign, she attended the ceremony on March 2.
On Wednesday, Gascon posted an Instagram Story featuring a black-and-white snapshot of Madonna embracing her.She captioned it, “Madonna, I want to thank you for all of your kindness, for inviting me to your party after the Oscars, and for your words of love and strength. “I love you.”
Madonna earlier declared that Emilia Pérez was her favorite movie of the year, and posted a photo of herself clutching director Jacques Audiard’s Oscar, with Audiard beside her.
In an October interview, Gascón revealed that Madonna was moved to tears during the premiere of Emilia Perez. “She said, ‘You’re amazing!'” “She kept crying,” Gascón recounted. “I asked Madonna, please. It is merely a film. “Be happy!”
Gascón thanked her fellow Hollywood colleagues for their support and respect during the banquet and celebration in her Story on Wednesday.
