Clay Walker is poised to play Randy Travis in the upcoming biopic Forever and Ever, Amen.
The two made the announcement Wednesday night on the Grand Ole Opry stage.
While two other actors will represent the 65-year-old icon between the ages of 9 and 12, as well as 20 and 30, Walker will play him in his latter years.
In reality, Clay was the one who pitched the idea to filmmaker Andrew Hyatt.
“To me, this is largely not going to be acting because I’ve been through a lot of those hardships that Randy has been through,” Walker confesses to People. “I had a difficult childhood. I have been through a divorce… I can put myself in Randy’s position. Randy doesn’t need compassion, but I identify with him, and I believe I’ll be able to give the character authenticity.”
While Clay has had several hits of his own, including “What’s It to You” and “If I Could Make a Living,” the film’s music will be based on Randy’s records.
Forever and Ever, Amen is planned to begin shooting this summer, with a spring 2026 release date.
