Dixon Police Adds New Features to Hopefully Make it a Safe and Enjoyable Petunia Festival

The Dixon Petunia Festival is here and for local city departments it is all hands on deck.

One of the busiest is the Dixon Police Department.  They are responsible for the safety of the thousands of people who attend.  Police Chief Steve Howell says officers would be seen and he hopes that makes people feel good.

Howell admits parking would be an issue.  This is due to the closing of some streets for activities.  One of those is Peoria Ave over the bridge.

Several other streets would also be closed.  The police department will have no parking signs and barricades around town.  Howell says plan accordingly and be prepared to park several blocks away.

He said officers from other Sauk Valley Departments would assist during the festival.  Drones will also be used and the City Fire Department will operate them.
