Dixon School Board holds a Moment of Silence for a Former Colleague

The Dixon School Board convened on Wednesday night and opened the proceedings with an amended budget hearing. Schools Superintendent Margo Empen explained the need for this amendment is more about all figures being reflected accurately for the summer audit.

The regular session started out with a moment of silence for longtime school board President Larry Reed who passed away this month. Empen remarked that Reed was a supporter of all things Dixon Public Schools, and he will be missed.

In other news, Jeff Gould is retiring after 24 as a principal in the district. Gould has been principal at Washington Elementary the last 11 years, and was principal at Jefferson and assistant principal at Reagan.

Things are moving along at the Dempsey Therapeutic Day School. Bids are out for painting, ceiling tiles and grid, along with shoring up the gymnasium floor. Empen said that she is more than optimistic that the doors will open come the upcoming school term.
