A group of workers, friends and family members came out Saturday morning to be a part of a very special event for one family in Dixon.

This was the official groundbreaking of the home being built for the Dixon Habitat for Humanity.  Meghin Steeb along with her 18-year-old son Kayden Carter and 12-year-old daughter Mackenna Muhammad put the shovels into the ground  and pulled up the dirt.

The volunteers and crews are busy with the house and according to Clara Harris of Habitat for Humanity; they are not having problems getting materials this time.

Harris said Meghin and Kayden would be putting in 200-hours each to build the home.  Steeb would also be paying the monthly payment for the home.

The plan is to have the home finished by November.  This is the 32nd home built by the Dixon Habitat for Humanity.
