Just before 9:30 Wednesday morning, Whiteside County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of Route 40 and Route 172 in rural Rock Falls.
Deputies and the Crash Reconstruction Unit say a farm tractor pulling a grain cart was northbound on Rt. 40 and was in the process of turning. At the same time, a semi-tractor trailer was also heading northbound. The semi entered the southbound lane to overtake the farm tractor. The vehicles collided at the intersection.
The Semi driver was taken to CGH Medical Center and released following evaluation. The driver of the farm tractor was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Route 40 was shut down for about 6 hours. The names of those involved have not been released.
