Carol A. Jones

Carol A. Jones age 85 of Dixon passed away surrounded by her family on Monday June 19, 2023 at KSB Hospital in Dixon.

She was born on Oct. 6, 1937 in Freeport, IL the daughter of Orville and Ruth (Snyder) Bowers. She was raised in Lanark, IL and was a graduate of Lanark High School. She was also a graduate and proud alumna of Northern Illinois University.

Carol worked as an educator for many years teaching home economics in the  Dixon Public Schools and later at the Dixon Correctional Center prior to her retirement. She was the co coordinator of the Out Door Education Program for Dixon Public Schools for several years.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, Catholic Comens Club,  Dixon Sister Cities, Singles in Agriculture, PEO, AAUW, and Community Trust Board. She was also a Girl Scout Brownie Leader, a 4H Leader for the Eldina Highlighters, was a Lee County 4H Fair Judge and volunteered at St. Mary School for 15 years while her children attended.

Carol enjoyed needle point, quilting, bridge clubs, and any occasion spent with friends. Carol was long time member of the KSB Auxillary and active at the state aux. level. She also enjoyed her time with family, whether it be over the phone or in person, she always loved hearing the latest news from her children and grandchildren.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Nancy Lindsey and JoDeane Finn. She is survived by her children Patrick (Lois) Jones of Amboy, John Jones of Chicago, Michael Jones of Washington D.C., Sarah (Jim) Gorzny of Oregon, 5 grandchildren Brian (Rose) Miller, Christopher Jones, Jordan (Beth) Gorzny, Olivia (Jarrad) McCoy, Cade Gorzny, and 5 great grandchildren Wyatt Hankemeier, Derek Miller, Jaxson Gorzny, Lilah Gorzny, and Jett McCoy. Carol is also survived by one sister Jane Bowers of Dixon.

Funeral services will be on Thursday June 22, 2023 beginning with a 10:00 AM prayer service at the Jones Funeral Home followed by a 10:30 AM Mass Christian Burial at St Patrick Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Jones Funeral Home with the Rosary at 6:00 PM.  A memorial has been established to St Mary School in Dixon.
