A few year’ ago, the City of Dixon and the Dixon School District received a Safe Route to School Grant.  This money is to be used for major safety improvements at South Galena Avenue and all along Division Street.  For one reason after another, the work has not gotten into full swing yet.

At the most recent School Board meeting, the board was asked to approve an easement on the property at the exit to Reagan Middle School.  School Superintendent, Margo Empen said she contacted the school district attorney and the Grounds and Maintenance Director Kevin Schultz about what the impact of allowing the city request on the area.  She was told there was not any negative impact.

The city wants access so when they do get started on the work they can have the access to the area when they need it.  Grounds and Maintenance Director Kevin Schultz said if the work would make it safer and better for the kids coming to school, he said it is a no brainer.

Schultz further stated the school crews would still do the mowing and upkeep of the property.  The board voted to approve the request.
